Working terms explained  (Quotes - Consultation - Estimates)

Quotes

Before a quote can be produced, many hours can be spent planing out a project, to determine what materials are needed, this in turn means contacting suppliers to check product suitability, availability and cost comparisons.

Clients often need appraising of the progress as the quote is being put together, what materials or products are available and their suitability for the project. Also, a realistic working time-frame to complete.

The quote will include material cost, delivery charges and labour.

The charge for the quote will then need to be settled on receipt of the quote and before any further work is done. Please note, that any amendments to a quote after it has been received will be charged accordingly.

Charges for Quotes £15 per hour.

If the quote is accepted, an agreed amount, for example 50% -70% of the total cost, will be required at least 4 days prior to the work commencing. If the working time frame is going to be lengthy, then an alternative arrangements will be necessary.

Please note that the client must agree that they are going to be invoiced for the quote and the bill settled before any other work is done.

An agreement like the one below will need to be signed and dated.

Consultancy

£45 per hour or part thereof.

What is the difference between an idea being talked about and consultancy?

How many times do we have a good idea about a job that needs doing but haven’t the technical know how to know if the idea will work?

So we chat to our family and friends to get approval and to get their opinion. But what we don’t get is the assurance that the idea will work. This is an idea being talked about.

The next step is to call someone who we believe is experienced or qualified to give us advice. We give them the idea, and they say yes, that will work or no, that will not work and this is why and this is how etc. This is consultancy.

Estimates

Prior to any work being considered, it is always necessary to visit the site, meet the client and talk about the project.  I can at that time confirm whether I can or can not do the work. However, I can not provide an accurate quote of the cost to complete the project but a rough estimation. The actual hours will then be calculated when the work is complete and cost adjustments made. This may be higher or lower than the estimated cost.

If the client would like me to provide a detailed quote, then I am happy to do so. Quote charges apply.

Assistance (helping hands)

If you require someone to help with a project, then I would be happy to assist. Please be aware that all materials, tools, and equipment to carry out the work will need to be provided. (as I am just the helping hand)

Current Labour charge and running costs apply.

Alternative and portable power systems, often called off grid

Feasibility reports

Please be aware that before any small off grid system can be created, certain things have to be worked out regarding power needs and whether such a system is feasible.

First stage

At the general enquiry stage, I can discuss what the client requires.  I can only give an opinion whether the requirements will be achievable.

If at this point it is agreed that a visit to the site is going to be required then this will be on the understanding that it will be necessary to create a feasibility report.

During the visit, more specific details will be required, to determine if the alternative power system / off grid system can actually be built.

At the site location options will be discussed re: the siting of a freestanding solar array and if a designated battery storage site is available, this may be an outbuilding, shed or cabin.  Measurements and photos will be made at site location as required.

Cost for the feasibility report £120. The details will be emailed.
